What Is Over-the-Phone Interpretation (OPI), and How Does AI Change It?
OPI is what happens when a call center adds a live interpreter to a phone call so a caller and an agent who don't share a language can actually talk. The traditional version means dialing a language line, waiting on hold for an available human interpreter, then running the whole conversation through that third person — three people on a call built for two, plus a per-minute rate for the interpreter on top of the agent's own time.
AI-based OPI removes the third person. Translatigo runs as a Chrome extension, so it interprets the call directly inside whatever web-based dialer or softphone the team already uses — Avaya, Five9, Genesys, RingCentral, and similar platforms — without a hold queue or a separate integration to build. It's priced at $0.07 per minute with a 20-minute free trial, and there aren't yet any named or certified dialer integrations, so it's worth testing against the specific platform a team runs before rolling it out fleet-wide.
